This railroad crossing is in Thurmond WV. The history of Thurmond begins in the 19th Century when railroads first penetrated the coal fields of WV. The railroad went as far as Thurmond station deep in the New River Gorge. Many men and their families who came to work in the coal fields got off the train at Thurmond. Today, no one lives in Thurmond. This little road goes up the hill to a few homes now abandoned. The train still runs through Thurmond everyday.
