This watercolor celebrates the tradition of the cakewalk, a dance that originated with slaves on American plantations in the South. From its early origins, the cakewalk progressed giving birth to many musical forms including ragtime, blues, and jazz.
"I am intrigued and intoxicated by color. My preferred media are watercolor, collage, and assemblage. I am charmed by geometric items and scenes. I like to paint people and places that offer me new challenges. I use bright colors and strong contrast to portray delightful people and still life. My goal is to attract and absorb those who see my art. Although some of my paintings are for sale, I paint chiefly for myself."
