Description
This old bridge, deep in the New River Gorge in West Virginia, was built for cars to crossover to the railroad station at Thurmond. The first railroad to enter the New River Gorge was at Thurmond in the late 19th Century. The rails brought coal out of the mountains and brought people in to settle the wilderness area. This photo was taken in 2016 at restored Thurmond station that is still a stop for passenger trains and tourists interested in the history and wildlife of West Virginia.
